Ash Tree Barns

Wedding Photography at Ash Tree Barns

On one of the hottest days of summer 2019, Karl and I had the amazing opportunity to photograph a styled shoot for the October 2019 issue of Marry in Norfolk at Ash Tree Barns.  We were given a venue, and then it was up to Karl and I to come up with a vision.  If you have looked at our website, you will quickly learn that Karl and I like to be different, and whilst we can do conventional, when we can, we like to turn conventional into the unconventional.

So our theme was going to be Boho but Boho has been done so many times before, so we went with a black wedding dress, after all black is classy. It is unconventional and there is no reason as to why you cannot get married in black, so Black Boho it was.

Now we had our theme is was time to find the models, horse and the correct attire for the shoot.  I visited Holly and Carol at White Reflections with Emma and Alice our first two models. Holly understood my vision and pulled off the peg the perfect dresses. The same was true for my second trip with Kate our 3rd model.

My next challenge was to arrange clothing for Jai our male model, luckily Jai was a cool dude and had the perfect clothes and we were also lucky to obtain a fantastic tweed suit from Pure.

Claire from Ash Tree Barns has over 20 years of makeup and wedding hairdressing experience and we also had Rachel Long Makeup and Beauty and the final piece of the jigsaw was flowers and we were so lucky to have Millie Rose Floral Design say yes.

Emma our model, had a horse, and Silverline Limousines had a beautiful Beauford car so we had a vision, models, clothing, hair and make, flowers, a venue and props; all we needed now was some great weather.

Leading up to the shoot, Karl and I used Pinterest to create a mood board so all the suppliers could understand our vision and allow them to fully prepare for the shoot.

On August 27th 2019, the sun was shining, it was warm, and a perfect day for the photoshoot. By 08:00 Alice, Kate and Emma were in hair and makeup

Our first shoot was in full sun and we used the moon arch from Millie Rose Floral Design to frame Alice and Jai in the courtyard of Ash Tree Barns. It was the first shoot of the morning and to overpower the sun we had to use 6 flashes and 2 reflectors.

Alice wears Penuelas by Yolan Cris, a boho-chic gown with motifs, ruffles and statement sleeves; Jai wears the Stretton charcoal lounge suit – See the colour picture in the Marry in Norfolk Autumn 2019.

Our second shoot was with Kate, Jai and Emma, in front of the Beauford, from Silverline Limousines using the front of Ash Tree Barns as a backdrop.

Kate wears the Avril gown by Rue De Seine, in dramatic Cornelli lace with cut-out detail on the train and sleeves; Jai wears Tiverton brown tweed waistcoat and trousers. The suit is worn with Raymond burnished tan brogues, and Liberty print tie. Emma models a blush multiway dress by Twobirds.

Our next shoot was with Alice, Emma and Maverick, and for this shoot we had Emma lead Maverick down the long sweeping driveway of Ash Tree Barns. The flower arrangement around Maverick’s neck looked fantastic.

Alice wears Adara by Rue De seine, a romantic, light and playful bustier gown.

The next shoot was again outside the front of Ash Tree Barns, and for this, we used the old horse cart as a prop. Kate looked absolutely magnificent, with the head crown and bouquet which complimented the dress beautifully and notice that Kate was not wearing any shoes.

Kate wears Wild Harlow by Rue De Seine. The semi-fitted bodice has beautiful sleeves flaring into dramatic bells from the elbow.

Our next shoot with Jai and Maverick, and again to go with the Boho style, Jai was not wearing any shoes, had an open neck shirt and braces.

For the next shoot we moved inside, it was now 3pm and the heat was really quite intense.

To help cool Kate off we placed her in the roll-top bath, with a drink. I felt with this dress we could suggest overflowing water.

Our final shoot was with Emma, Maverick, Alice and Jai. For this shoot the sun was getting low, lighting up the field next to Ash Tree Barns, perfect for our all-out Boho picture. An all-black wedding, bright red lipstick, dark eye shadow, vest shirt, braces and sunglasses. This was Karl’s and my vision of having a classy, unconventional Boho styled wedding, what do you think?
